The announcement concluded, "In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to the Six Nations of the Grand River to support a new Woodland Cultural Centre."

The year-old who wrote songs like 'The Weight', 'Up on Cripple Creek', and 'The Night They Drove Ol' Dixie Down', among other hits by The Band, reportedly married his wife less than five months before he died.
