Patrick Vieira: Roy Keane's right, I WOULD beat him in a fight - but only just
Patrick Vieira says he would have beaten Roy Keane in a fight – but would have taken a battering in the process.
Keane, writing in his new autobiography The Second Half , said his old midfield foe Vieira would have come out on top in a scrap between them at the height of their rivalry.
The former United and Arsenal skippers provided one of the Premier League’s most enduring and compelling rivalries , as their two sides slugged it out for the title for over a decade.
Despite their bitter rivalry, there was a mutual respect between the pair, although Vieira, now reserve team boss at Manchester City, said he had yet to read Keane’s latest book.
“No I haven’t read it, but I have heard a lot about it,” said Vieira.

Vieira, 38, and Keane, 43, came together a few years ago for a TV documentary that charted their rivalry, with the former conceding their similarities produced an underlying respect for each other.

“At that time, Arsenal were building up a great team ti challenge United, who were up there already,.
Maybe United and Roy weren’t used to that kind of challenge.
“Our rivalry at that time was more with United than it was with Tottenham. It was good, but I don’t miss playing now, because I played for a long time and I couldn’t do it any more.”
Vieira believes champions City will push all the way in the defence of their title this season and make the Champions League knockout stage, despite just one point from their first two games.
“We’ve had some up and downs, but I think the best is yet to come from our team, because when you look at our players and the squad we have, it’s one of the best in Europe,” said Vieira.
“I’m sure we’ll challenge in all of the competitions.
If you look at the first few games, you’d say the title is between City and Chelsea.
“But people with more experience will believe Arsenal can still be there, Liverpool also, despite a bad start, because of what they did last season.
“I think what will make it really exciting is that I believe five or six clubs will be up there, challenging at the top.
“We still have a really good chance of qualifying for the Champions League knockout stage.

“It was a similar start last season. There are still a lot of points on the table.
Yes, it will be difficult for us, but it will also be difficult for Bayern and Roma.
“These back-to-back games against CSKA Moscow are massive for us.”
